d3d8.dll is DirectX. Specifically, it's version 8. I'm pretty sure DirectX 9 keeps a version of d3d8 on the hard drive. In any case, that's what you want. Try to get the latest DirectX 9 from http://www.microsoft.com/directx and if that doesn't work, see if you can find version 8.

you know dll files are Dynamic Link Library.
When your application asked for a dll file it means that it wants to
use that dll at specified path but it can not.
so maybe you had deleted this file.
To solve this problem you should install a file recovery
application such as RecoverMyFiles or NortonAntivirus.

If you installed NortonAntivirus the name of RecycleBin will
change to "NortonProtectedRecycleBin".
Right click on RecycleBin and choose "UneraseWizard".
a window will be opened, select your dll file and click "Recover"
button.
It will be back to the same path as before deleting.
It would the best way.
but Re-installing the software is the least solution.

You have to reinstall it.

At some point, something went screwy, and your DLL got erased. You can't really manually reload the dll by itself unless you are an advanced computer user. Just find the program online and reinstall it, and that should fix it.

Note: If the game came with your computer, then you should be able to reinstall it from your Windows CD.

I would suggest you re-install the PLAY65 backgamon application.

This will repair any damaged DLL's.

That's the easiest way to repair it.
