I would go to an antique dealer, if a local one can't help you, they would know where to direct you. Good luck!

First off, who told you who these maps belonged to and when they date from? If you have reliable information on that then you clearly would know the value. I'm sure any maps you have don't date to the time of Christ. Unless you knew a guy named Christ back in elementary school. Paper is a fragile relic and without proper care/unwitting storage methods, anything that old would have been destroyed.

The best thing to do is call the largest museum near you and ask for their help searching out an expert in maps and documents. Then get in touch with that expert and ask them about how to go about authenticating your maps and how to go about getting the provenance of them.

If you have the sort of items you list you should go to Sothebys or Christies to get them valued. They will charge a percentage of the valuation.

A museum, which in the case of maps may mean the British Library, will tell you about the collection and confirm what it is, but they will not give you a valuation.

Any professional antiquarain librarian or autioneer encountering the sort of items you list will want to know about their provenance, i.e. where you got them from, and so on backwards in time.

You can call your local museum or a company like Sotheby's in New York.
