Any potato starting with the word maris in the name eg maris peer, piper. Will produce excellent floury baking potoes. I live in Scotland and I plant them around easter time. You can harvest them anytime after around 14 weeks. Good luck.

I love Red Potatoes. They are very creamy tasting, bake really well, and are easy to grow. Plant them in the spring, after the last frost.

Lot's of good suggestions here already, so please pick several! A large planting of only one kind of potato is much harder to maintain, requires more pesticides, and is much more likely to be wiped out by disease. (That's what happened during the famous Irish potato famine.) Much better to plant alternating rows of three or more kinds to withstand threats from insects and micro-organisms.

My husband swears by Irish Cobblers as baked potatoes, and he's been gardening for over 40 years. I also like Yukon Golds, though. They are yellow, and I think they taste more buttery.
