No they aren't free thinkers. They are little sheep that follow what the Liberal Media tells them, what there Liberal College Professors tell them and what their idols in Hollywood tells them to think.
Edit: I myself don't listen to any talk shows and very limited news broadcasts. I get my news by surfing the web and I hit many sites not just the ones that only look at the subject in my point of view. I may not do this everyday, since I feel there isn't anything significant everyday, but at least once a week to get a broad overview of what is going on in the world.
Edit: The Liberals also hate it when I point out the truth to them, since "They can't handle the truth!"

"Liberals" - whatever that means - are just as "free" to think as anyone else. Or not.
I tend to believe that my political philosophy grew out of watching how my parents and family interacted with each other, friends, and society in general.
My father was a boy during the Great Depression, so he learned to be somewhat tight with his money, get good value, make things last, etc. He taught me that hard work is its own reward; that few things of value come easily.
My mother was from a large family, and thus taking care of one another was important. She had a deep sense of benevolence and charity. She devoted thousands of hours to just helping people through the church.
I believe I'm a "free thinker" in the sense that I feel there is a dividing line between "morality" and "common sense." We waste time as a society trying to delude teens with "abstinence programs" and denying them free access to contraception; meanwhile, spread of STDs and teen pregnancy are a disgrace.
I hear plenty of "parroting" from people of both major parties.

By definition both Liberals & Conservatives already have a point of view influenced by the leaders of the Liberal ideology or Conservative ideology. The only free thinkers politically are independants.

Some are... Martin Luther King Jr., Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, etc... but hardly any in this day and age.
Today it's just another, "Bush is a moron... hehe, did you hear what I called him? Hardy har har. I hate Bush." Basically no original thought. Most of what they say now is rehashed from the anti-Vietnam movement of the late 60s, early 70s.
Maybe they'll come around, but who knows when that will happen.

Liberals believe in true freedom, freedoms that we are supposed to have like freedom of religion, thought, to marry whomever we would like to and to stop all this ignorance like violence. Liberals don't "parrot what their leaders say" because they don't have any leaders.

I wouldn't define myself as a "Liberal" (although, to some, anyone to the left of David Duke is a Liberal), but I must say your question reeks of "parroting" what Rush Limbaugh says.

my thoughs are that many people, conservative or liberal, use thoughtless "talking points" to try to deliver a message. deep down we are all free thinkers, just not always good at debating issues.
