Do you agree that your college didn't do enough to help you find a job once you graduated? I think that many universities don't aid students enough or prepare them enough to go out into the real world and land a job that they actually went to school for. It sucks

I would like to add that I have been trying for MONTHS to find the job that I have set out for. It isn't like I've been sitting around doing nothing. I send out resumes on a regular basis, and I gave my school a lot of money. They gave me a diploma, but I feel like it isn't doing much for me! Some of my brother's friends who dropped out of high school are making much more than I am now! Help!

I went to college earning a BA and MBA. However, I did not go straight through once I earned my Bachelors. I did not find a job in my field in which I obtained my Bachelors. The goal is to get some real work experience under your belt and develop the skills which employers are in search of.

Sure, college teaches you concepts pertaining to a certain industry. However, you should also be able to learn how to think, reason and problem-solve analytically. This can be done via humanities and math classes.

Most colleges and universities have Career Placement Centers. They can only do so much in regard to you finding a job. The market is quite competitive regardless of your chosen field. Don’t dwell too much on finding a job based on your major. 80% of the people who major in one thing end up doing another.

The primary goal is to focus on getting a job by preparing your resume properly and being professional and upbeat once you start job hunting. When you send out a resume, do research on the job and the company.

Look at the qualifications for the job – technical and interpersonal. Break down each requirement, assess your skills and talents and determine if you are qualified for the job to be in the running or if you should move on to the next position.

Good luck.

I understand how you feel. I was a Communication major, I wanted to go into television production and I specifically chose my college because it was in a large town with plenty of TV stations to choose from and because the college "said" they had a great job placement program for after graduation. But, it came to nothing. I had to go out and find my own job in a different town after graduation...my college gave me little or no help! Turns out what they were really good at was getting students internships...but I was working full-time (to pay the bills) and going to school full-time. Like I had time to work for free!!

Most people have to work up to the job that they want that uses the exact degree they earned. I know it sucks. I'm a secretary, and I have a Master's degree in Administration of Justice, and I had to go through a temp agency to get that job. However, we will be relocating soon for my husband's job to a metro area so hopefully, I will find something there. I live in the sticks now. I'm sorry to say, but you'll probably just have to take something to get by and at least build a work history before you get a job you really want. I know it stinks, but it's common. I heard of one guy with the same degree that I have, and he had to deliver pizzas to make ends meet. The job market just isn't too good right now. Also, don't be afraid to apply for entry level positions. Nobody (at least most people) don't start out with their dream jobs. Good luck.

Ironically enough, my school doesnt help either. But the music department itself does help graduates get a job. Any student who graduates as a Music Education, Music History or Music Preformance degree is helped. There is a 100% turn around, because they have found every graduate a job.

My college gave me a job and guaranteed I'd have it for at least five years. The starting salary was good and it doubled in about 3 years.

Then again, it was the most highly selective school in the country taking less than 10% of applicants.

I went to the US Naval Academy.

Definitely agree! I graduated with top honors in my major and MagnaCum Laude overall, but am unable to find a job in my field!

It's ridiculous! I am working for people right now who have no college whatsoever!! I feel like if I had gone straight to the work field without the 4 years of colllege to get my piece of paper, I'd be further along in a career already!

I went to a community college and they do everything in their power to help you find a job. Each course depends on a certain percentage of students finding a job in that field in order to stay on. I got the same amount of education as a 4 year college, only I didn't have to take 2 years of generals. I know community college's have a bad rap, but for me, it got me a job in my field that I love 2 years sooner.
