Please help. I recently purchased a peugeot 205 auto and noticed a smell of petrol after driving. I checked under the car (engine off) and couldn't see any leaks. However when engine is on there's a small petrol leak (1 drop per second) under the car (drivers side, near engine). Is it just a case of changing a leaky pipe or could be be an expensive job?

An expensive fuel pump replacement needed it would seem.

The fuel pump only operates with the engine running so it could be that (and therefore expensive). But similarly it could just be a rusted fuel pipe. Get yourself a Haynes manual, find out where the fuel pump is and then compare to where your leak is. It goes withouth saying that petrol leaks are potentially very dangerous - way more than diesel because it ignites at a lower temperature - so get it fixed quick!
Good luck

The fault is either the pump, or the pipe between the pump and carburetter. Find the leak and get down your scrapyard for the replacement parts ASAP.

Could be just a perished pipe, possibly at the fuel filter. Don't run the car, get it sorted, this is potentially very dangerous.

It sounds like a pipe.... the best advice is garage it...it may cost a few bob..however it is a bit dodgy to drive like that.

If you bought it from a dealer, I presume it's got a warranty. Whatever, get it fixed, it's dangerous!
