I am assuming you are in the UK and are referring to depo-Provera ("jag")? DPMA is given as an intramuscular injection in either the buttock or upper arm, and it is over very quickly. You may experience slight aching or tenderness at the injection spot thereafter, but that will clear up soon. There are many potential side effects to depo-Provera, not the least of which is an irreversible loss of bone mineral density and the potential to permantly cease ovulation. Weight gain, mood swings, and more [http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic2/depoprovera_ad.htm] have also all been reported. Good luck; hope it works out.

First let the nurse know you are afraid and also let them know if you are going to faint. You need to be lying down on a gurney already if that is the case.
Then, I know this is going to sound crazy, but get a small pinwheel or bottle of blowing bubbles and right before they are going to give you the shot, start to blow. Really try to focus on that, and don't look at the nurse. It will be over before you know it.
I've worked with kids all my life it seems, and that technique works really well.
Another good thing is to be focused on a video game like gameboy or something if the shot is in the tucas.
Good luck, it is only a pinch and will be over in a sec- dd

I had to get blood work yesterday and had to get a needle. I hate needles but it didn't hurt. It only pinched for a second then it was ok. It only takes a second or two. Just don't look. It will be fine.

I know what you mean, I can't stand neddils either. In fact, I hate them with a vengeance. NASTY LITTLE NEDDILS ! By the way; I'd like a Jaguar too, there are some good used 'X' types around at the moment for reasonable prices.

dont worry you will be fine.if need be take a friend, make sure you are sat down.i used to take my children who were often nervous, and give them an extra strong mint to suck on just before the jab and that took their mind off the jab for a moment...sounds corny but it always worked for us...good luck.xx

Explain to the health care person that you are scared of needles.
Ask if you can lie down while they inject you (this will help if you start feeling dizzy).
DON'T LOOK!

two ways to go.
a) tell nurse or doc about your fear and ask them to rub some anaesthtic gel on your arm, then look away.
b) see a qualified hypnotherapist who should banish fear in one session,

Well they used to me to tell to me to say la la la la...... loudly when I was a child, but you might look a bit stupid doing it as an adult.
