Why people can't keep a secret?

Question

Why people can't keep a secret and crave to tell it to somebody, to
confide in somebody, even if this will do them harm? Even the Midas' barber did.
Is there a scientific name for such a desire? To share knowledge of something with somebody? Of any: affair, murder, theft, just a gossip, or anything about oneself (just to tell anybody something about one's life).

the only people that have a need to tell someone elses secrets are people who have no life of thier own and want to feel important . Thier own life is so boring that they use secrets of others to gain attention of other people. Or when it is about them selves and something bad they did I would say because their inner self is feeling guilty and they want to be caught and punished.
I have a rule i follow if I dont want anyone to know something I keep it to myself. Telling someone something that I dont want any one to know doesnt make sence. I also dont pay any attention to what anyone tells me about someone else either especially if they tell me that it is a secret and that i better not tell anyone but yet they are telling me. 9 times out of 10 what ever they would say probably is only 3 % truth and the rest is all added on.

How about Excitement, Interest, Popularity, Entertainment,Being the first to Know, Feeling Above Others? Gossip is viciously cruel and can cripple people. But a good story, even a big turmoil (Donald and Rosie??? Are they on yet because I set my timer!!) can keep us all interested for days.
We are curious and easily bored people, those of us who have time to listen or even care.
Sounds like someone talked about you, or you are tired of someone's big blabbermouth.
The tongue can be a weapon or deliver a blessing. You'll never shut people up!! Be a credit to yourself by not indulging, but no fair if you listen!! And remember that the first one to tell on you was YOURSELF!! Secrets? Keep them safe at all times, inside your head because that is the only way to hold on to them. @8=)

Because there is no true meaning of a secret. Who has to know and who must not know what you did? If you can answer that then you will know why people can't keep secrets.

Even our fore-fathers who had legitimate children someone apart from the two of them knew what happened and they will tell later and say don't tell anyone. Who is anyone?

In the situation you're talking about, where people tell on themselves, I would say it's due to guilt. I think that most people can't live for long periods of time doing something that is harmful to someone else without "confessing." It's good for the soul you know.

Note: I do say most people, because there are sociopaths amongst us.

Well, I think it is because it's a conversation starter. When you tell someone about the secret they just gossip about it.

Secrets have power -- inside or special knowledge, priviledged information. So if you know it and tell it, that makes some people feel powerful. Of course KEEPING secret can feel powerful too. "I know something you don't know."

a secret is not a secret once it is told to someone, secrets are only secrets if a person never tells it to anyone...hence when a person says to you dont tell this to anyone its a secret, it is no longer a secret.....but dont tell anyone i told you so......
