I know I know every race has advantages and disadvantages so can you give me some?

to be honest, the best mage is a gnome mage, with the increase to int and all things magic and humans get bonus to rep gain which is what Wow is all about, However since you mention undead I'm going to assume that you want to play horde.
although horde don't have any 'beat all' talents for mages, undead are the most popular choice, since they do have excellent pvp ability, where as trolls are just for looking at.
undead mage = pvp greatness
gnome mage = pve greatness
human mage = rep greatness

Undead Mages OWN. I have one myself, lvl 60 with Warlord PvP gear. He's sick, frost spec and he annihilates everything. :)
Will of the Forsaken is arguably the best racial ability in the game, and cannibalize and extended water breath are awesome too. Cannibalize never seems to get the appreciation it deserves. All o my undead toons use it liberally.
Not to mention, undead mages look the coolest of all the races when they're decked out in their nicer high level gear. :)

If you are going to make a mage on the horde side, undead is definately the way to go. You also get that wonderful Race Talent (Will of the Forsaken) which will break you out of fear and such.

huey, i have an undead mage but its lvl is only 32 but, if you want if you want to get a mage undead is the answer because undead mages looks so cool:}. i dont know undead looks ugly but with the armor and s**t the look the coolest. but remember undead dont have any racial benefits that woud give you an advantage.

unedead mages are good and the best choice for the horde side and i have a lv 60 mage and it has good spells like polymorph and they can make food and drinks so u dont have to buy food/drinks

i've had a human (60), gnome (mid-level) and undead mage (low level).
i think they were all pretty much on par with one another, but the undead has the nice bonus of the racial trait (cannabalism - i think its called) where you can gain health by feeding off your kill... handy as it helps with your downtime a bit.

Er... Shamans are kinda broken if used right, and mages are too.
All I know is that gnome rogues are good though.
