I am a British citizen, and this is my first interview in an American school. I really want the job. Any suggestions on technique, what I should/shouldn't say, what I should/shouldn't bring?
Any sensible advice greatly appreciated.

I would suggest going to the interview well prepared. Get there in lots of time, have a copy of your resume (even if you already gave them one) and any certificates that you may have. Dress for the job. For a teaching job, I would not show up in jeans and a t-shirt. I would dress maybe business casual or try to find out what the dress code is for teachers and make sure you meet that standard.
Also don't talk too much. Answer their questions completely but don't try to over impress them. That is something that really bothers me when I'm conducting an interview. Make sure you do not use statements like "you would be crazy not to hire me", that's a deal breaker with me, you would come off sounding too cocky.
Be prepared to take about how you can relate to the children you are going to be teaching and be prepared for some hard questions on how you would deal with scenarios. For example they may ask you how you would deal with a student coming to you and telling you he/she was abused at home. You obviously don't know what the policies of the school are, but they would be looking for you to provide a common sense answer.
Be confident and you should do just fine.

you've got this one. trust me. American are crazy about British accents. plus the children will listen and be more interested in you. be yourself. they will see you enthusiasm as you speak.
