This was very early in the morning and there could have, logistically, been no reason for any passing object/person to trigger it; my only thought is that for some reason an increase in room temperature could have caused this - but this seems unlikely to me - any thoughts ?

Most sensors are very sensitive - read the manufacturers guidelines - it could be that you have set it to a highly sensitive setting - some manufacturers ask that you set the sensitivity to a less sensitive setting by a factor of 1.
No idea what could of set off your alarm.
Since you mention heat and early morning it could be that the movement of air or building as the temperature rises and falls could have set it off. An open door / draft or clock chimes perhaps ?

our car alarm kept going off last night but it was so windy did you have a window open and maybe the curtain blew in front of the sensor or maybe the wind just set it off but its going to be very windy again tonight
