Did you that the founder of rap music was actually a white guy!!
Anyway, you don't owe an explanation to anyone about your taste in music. As long as you are proud of who you are, you shouldn't care what other people say. You define who you are; the music you listen to does not define who you are, so be happy!!

I think i'm in one of the best postitions to answer this one. I went to a boarding school for 5 years, I was the only white girl in my class. There were many white people trying to act black which was ridiculous. I pretty much made it a point that I was white, wore etnies hoodies, dc shoes, etc.... I didn't care what they thought, showed they respected me a lot more then any of the fakers. In a dormitory where I was the only white girl, you knew what room I was in (blasting breaking benjamin, modest mouse, good charlotte and such) I became know as the white girl and that didn't bother me at all. I had a lot of black friends who didn't like rap as well... they were called white girls as well lol. It was a playful joke, and they took it as such. They didn't change for anyone and stood up by saying silly remarks that got everyone laughing. If they take it too seriously that you don't like rap, something's def wrong with them and I would blast my own music!

Ignore them. Who says you have to like rap music? I hate it. I don't even think it is real music. Don't even bother talking to them about it; it would be a waste of time and end up proving nothing. Listen to what you want to listen to regardless of what anyone else may think.
I used to work witha guy who listened to carousel music all day at work. THAT was weird.

There's nothing wrong with disliking rap music. You have a taste for other music other than rap. You can choose to ignore those people who make fun of you, most likely they are not worth of your attention, and they seem to be after that: your attention.

To hell with them. If you want to fit into a stereotypical mold like they do then you'll have to brainwash yourself into dressing in a certain way, speaking the way they want you to speak, and listening to the music that fits you. If you actually want to be an individual and an independent thinker (those are the only people whom I respect as true human beings), then listen to whatever you want to and leave the rest of the sheeple to their stereotypes. Don't bother trying to explain it to them, we individuals can't change members of the herd into seeing things the way we do, so why even bother. I have several black friends who listen to whatever they want to, and they don't have any problems associating with other people of their caliber, black or non-black. It's the rest of the sheeple who can't understand this and will criticize you, don't listen to them.

Hey,do not let them get you down.Nothing depresses more than pretending to your friends..they should be able to accept you for who you are..and that includes your likes and dislikes.
Talk to them about it.Though they might laugh at you, some will secretly admire you for standing up for what you like. You wont regret it..at least you wont have to listen to rap and pretend you like it when all you want to do is leave the room.

We are all unique, with our own differences of opinion etc. Don't listen to the stereo-types who say things they have no right saying. Just because you are black, do you HAVE to wear "dread locks", or because I'm white, do I have to like Rugby? No! Whatever floats your boat Hon. You stick to your guns and tell them to shut up! Besides, people like that are just looking for SOMETHING to tease others about, they just happen to be able to pick on your music.

Being black does not mean you have hip-hop/rap in your genes. And anyone (black or white) who thinks otherwise, might as well assume you like fried chicken and watermelon. Either way, it's presumptious and racist. Just concentrate more on being you, instead of worrying how you think you need to justify yourself to others.

Music is based on personal taste, not on race. I'm white AND southern but I hate country music and love hip hop. Tell them to get past the racism, you are free to enjoy whatever music you like.
