You know what... NO, do not "pick up" bartending!
I'm sick of people like you, who think bartending is just this fun thing to do, to pick some up some extra cash and get hit on by guys.
There are actual REAL bartenders who take their craft VERY seriously and put alot of effort into a day. Doing things like perfecting and creating recipes, learning numerous brewing techniques, alcohol distilling & wine-making processes. Trying to better themselves into becoming master brewers or sommeliers. And then little snot-nosed punks (with absolutely NO personality) come along and just think it's so glam to because some movie or TV show made it look "cool."
If you want to make some fast money go be a server in a diner or a Fridays. There you won't have to learn about cheesemaking and the numerous types of oysters in the world.

It 's more about personality. Bar tending isn't hard but can get very fast paced. I'm a male and Bar tending for 6 years and then bounced while running and managing a very large bar and it can get crazy at times. The bar I ran was out in the middle of no where but close to a ski resort (about 18 miles) and could do a $1,600.00 night in sales on the weekend. My customers were half Rednecks and half Lumberjacks( I'm both) so I was very busy Bouncing all my friends that were just having fun. Although bar tending today is not like the old times, I responded to your question for one reason, if you become a bartender and I'm sure you'll be good at it if you have the personality and energy, there three rules you need to know. It's the three rules I would teach my bartenders when they came on board and it goes like this... (1) don't whistle at me, I'm not a dog (2) banging your beer can on the bar will only get you tossed out and (3) ASK!! if you don't know how to make a drink, ask the customer what's in it? if they don't know...they don't need to drink it! chances are, they're just messing with you then you can use my quote..." I'm as nice as you let me be" dhwilson58. have fun, make lots of tips and good luck to you. oh yea....there's a lot money to be made Bar tending.

in my experience, bartending is 99% customer service. those bartending schools are entirely unneccessary (and most bars could care less if you've been to one), pick up a few books on exotic drinks (just in case, most people only order the "standard" few drinks anyway). if you get hired, it shouldn't take you more than a few weeks to figure out what all the most popular drinks are and how to prepare them.

not too hard, if you don't
know how to make a drink, the person ordering it usually does. you can also study up on the bartenders guide. i started out at a small bar and worked my way up to a nice nightclub. if you are a fast learner it will take no time at all.

might want to take a bartending class
depending on where you live and if you can find a place willing to teach you.
i paid my way through college bartending, but it is a very demanding job and requires you to know a lot more than a "few" drinks.

depends on how busy the bar is, but I would go take a course in bartending... It really helps you learn different drink recipes, your responsibilities for making sure you don't over-serve customers, how to maintain bar equipment, etc.

you'll get something you desire. if it is your first time going out to a bar, you desire to be certain that you aren't getting inebriated. do not cross by myself-cross with a pal, male ideally. you ought to believe the man or woman to take you by way of the revel in and in addition appear out for you if what you grow to be ingesting hits you a bit of too difficult and also you grow to be feeling flushed, dizzy, nauseated or sick..a pal who can maintain your hair again and reassure you in case you begin throwing up. you must drink what you're aware of. matters like tequila pictures or scotch or whiskey are difficult liquors. you'll order a pitcher of wine and sip is slowly..and in contrast to a shot like tequila, a pitcher of wine isn't long past in a single gulp..you'll velocity your self. beer is the lightest factor you'll have with alcohol and may be very trendy in bars absolutely. you might also order a fruit cocktail, without or with alcohol, it's your option, simply inform the bartender as you are ordering. nobody shall be in a position to appear at your drink and inform whether or not it has alcohol or now not, so you'll be at ease. consistent with the hour, you'll additionally get espresso in bars..the later the time will get although, the extra bars generally tend to give up serving scorching beverages, so endure that during brain if you need. well success, experience and feature a well time. OH and playstation -being a tender girl, you are going to ordinarily get tons of awareness within the bar and guys might begin sending or shopping you beverages. do not believe you ought to speak to any of them, and do not believe such as you ought to drink each unmarried one both. only a pleasant tip.
