There have been many Native women to compete but, to my knowledge, there have been none to win the crown. However, Miss America 2003 does claim to be able to trace her heritage back to full-blood Choctaw and Cherokee relatives way back when. She also claims to have "ex-slaves" as ancestors too. Her name was Erika Harold, Miss Illinois.

No, nor have I seen an overweight young woman who has acne, wears glasses and has braces on in this so called "scholarship pageant". I think Native Americans were lied to enough when we landed here without getting involved in these sham pageants.
