I want to take my wife to a movie for a surprise. The 3 movies I'm considering are The Departed, The Prestige, and Babel. She likes, primarily, intelligent dramas. She liked Seven, Pride and Prejudice, and Crash. She didn't like Sin CIty ,The Time Machine, and 21 Grams. I'm leaning toward The Departed since she liked The Usual Suspects but, if there's a bunch of car chases and gunfights, she'll hate it. If you've seen these movies please help me out.

The Departed. I believe it's a great movie with really good plot. No car crashes and a deeper meaning than just gunfights. But if she's a Brad Pitt's fan I suggest Babel!!

She will love The Prestige. It has good acting and a great plot. The Departed has a lot of violence and since she didn't like Sin City--she probably won't like that.

The Lake House. Starring Keeanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock. I think it's now available in DVDs and CDs. It has quite an interesting story. I liked it very much , one of my favorites actually. You won't regret it, and i'm sure your not only your wife will enjoy it, but you also will. Though you won't be expecting crime fighting and stuff, it is fun. It's a Romantic movie in a different setting. If she liked the Pride and Prejudice she will most definitely like this one.

The shorts for Babel looked pretty good and I like your wife's kind of movies.
