How much time do you need in July (in america) to stay in Las Vegas and go to the grand canyon?
We are going to USA from Australia in July (I know...US summer..we are wanting to go to USA without snow etc so we can experience it during summer and also go to Cedar Point and Schlitterbahn water park as well. Anyway, Could we possibly just spend 2 nights in Las Vegas and drive out and see the grand canyon? (we will be flying from Los Angeles to Las Vegas and hopefully from Las Vegas to Austin, Texas (and driving 1 hour to schlitterbahn in new braunfels) and then driving to Houston, Flying to Chicago etc. Anyway, will 2 nights (flying into Las Vegas early in the morning so we get two full days be enough? We are a family of 5. We won't be gambing much probably just $5 or $10. We would be going there for a luxury hotel and to see the Grand Canyon. Will 2 full days and nights be enough? We have very limited time.

We will also be going to Sandusky, Ohio, Chicago, Boston, New York and Washington DC before flying back to Los Angeles and flying back to Australia. We have a limit of a month (4 weeks) in the US. We really wanted to get to Orlando and go to sea world, wet'n'wild and 2 disney world parks Epcot and another one. Will we have time?

We want to only spend 3 nights all up in LA, hopefully just 2 maybe 3 nights in Las Vegas, 2 or 3 nights in New Braunfels, Texas, 2 nights in Houston, 3 nights in Chicago, 3 nights in Sandusky, 4 nights in Boston, 4 or 5 nights in New York and about 3 or 4 nights in Washington DC. We want to also visit the best museums (world-class) in the last few cities I mentioned.

Should we fly to Las Vegas, drive out to the Grand Canyon (with a hire car) and then drive back to Los Angeles (by-passing Las Vegas) and then fly to Austin, Texas from Los Angeles? Is the road well-populated? I'm worried about breaking down on a quiet stretch of

What is the best airline (safe and good quality) which flies directly to Austin, Texas from Los Angeles or Las Vegas? Please name them. South west, Delta, Continental?
Direct flight please!

Why 3 days in the grand Canyon? Is it near Phoenix? Where do you stay the night? How many hours drive is it from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon?

What sort of weather problems might interfere with our travel plans in July? Cyclones/tornados?

You have asked an extremely difficult question to answer. The question has way too many possible solutions to be answered on this forum.
You have also presented us with what I think is an unrealistic itinerary that does not include a do not exceed price point.
Your idea of non- continuing one way flights and dropping off vehicles at a diifernent location from where you picked them up is going to get extremely expensive.
My personal solution to your dilema is to fly round trip to chicago on united
rent a vehicle and drive to sandusky, boston NYC, DC
leave the vehicle in longterm parking and fly a multi leg trip to orlando , houston and then back to DC on delta
Drive from DC back to Chicago then return home
it's still going to cost a lot but by doing it this way you will save a lot of money.

WOW. You're going to be busy. You can drive from Vegas to the Hoover damn in an hour or so. The Grand Canyon starts there. You can spend an hour at the canyon or two days; depends on how much you want to see and do.
All the roads, even the desert roads are fairly busy. You should not have any problems if you break down. Slight chance of breaking down with a new rental car.
Southwest Airlines in probably the best and cheapest from L.A. or Vegas to Houston. I fly from Houston to L.A., round trip for about $139. When you are in Houston don't forget the Museum of natural Arts and Science. Everywhere you are traveling in the South will be very hot during July. Good luck, have a great trip.

Northwest, Southwest, US Airways / America West Airlines fly direct from Las Vegas and American, Southwest from Los Angeles. I5 is a heavily traveled roadway.

2 days in Vegas should be OK. It is a 5 hour drive to the canyon. Depending on what you want to do, you could return the same day.

Your itinerary looks good. Hope you can stick to it. Possible weather problems could slow you down in Texas.

While in Boston, may I suggest visiting the North End - just ask at your hotel. Old world atmosphere in a large city.

Enjoy your trip.
