What are the real differences between Fender Squier, Mexican, Japanese and USA Stratocaster guitars? Is it just the name or are there real sound and/or quality issues?

I used to own a Squire Strat but never learned to play properly.
Nice well made but i do not know anything about guitars, that's why i sold it.

The stratocaster is made with much better materials, sounds better and will last forever. Play one and you'll feel why they cost so much more. If you are a beginner looking for that fender sound, get a squier... not the starcaster. The starcaster will just frustrate you with tuning issues and a sound that will stunt any beginners learning. Squiers are good reliable beginner guitars that may not have the best tone, but still have decent intonation and tuning stability. Never get a starter pack! Its just more worth it to spend all that money on the guitar itself, you'll be happier in the long run.

I bought a Strat in1972,it's a Fender, it is white [because of the guitar used by George Harrison in the Bangla Desh concert] it's also left handed. I have played it constantly till about 2 years ago. all the time I played it I struggled with getting a sound and tone I was happy with. I bought so many fx pedals that I could open my own music shop. I've always wanted a crisp, sharp sound, but i have recently realised that I have a natural blues feel, and so whether I want to or not that's the way the sound leaves my fingers.
by the way mine was made in USA, you wanna buy it?

The general consensus seems to be, in decreasing order of quality:

USA
Japan
Mexico
Squier

That having been said, you can find bad USA guitars just as often as you can find excellent Squiers. The sound will generally be more or less the same; the fit and finish is where the differences lie, most noticeably (in my experience, anyway) with the fret work and the electronics cavity. All I can say is, shop around...you might be pleasantly surprised.

I have a 57 reissue USA strat and it's absolutey stunning.
Not sure what the exact differences are but I guess quality of wood, machine heads, pickups etc.

My advice is to get the best you can afford. Jap Strats are pretty good i think but USA is best without a doubt.

The ones made in Mexico are crap. The wood is different as well as the frets & tuning pegs. Sorry, I couldn't tell you about the ones from the other countries you asked about.
