Since August last year, I have had to replace my cooker, fridgefreezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher and microwave! I must admit, they all served me well, but what's the odds of all going at once!!!!

You have an electrical problem in your house.
To diagnose this problem you should probably follow these steps, but you could allow an Electrician to do this work for you.
1. Buy a cheap, 5-20 dollar voltage tester from a hardware store and a 2 dollar notebook. Check every outlet in your house for reduced or increased voltage. If you have a lot or all bad outlets, you need to call an Electrician to diagnose the larger issues.

2. Many of these machines appear to be in your Kitchen, and even the Washing Machine and Dryer could be in a room near your Kitchen. Check your wiring diagram, usually on the inside panel of your fusebox for the number of circuits for your home and specifically for your kitchen. Many sub-grade contractors will wire a single circuit for too many outlets in your home. If all of these machines were on the same circuit, there's also a possibility of a short in the circuit or corosion on the fuse which is allowing your machines to get fried.

3. If neither of the above steps shows any signs or watch signals, make sure to put all of these appliances on surge protectors. Lightning strikes are common in most countries, especially on residential power assets. You could be experiencing surges from strikes somewhere on your house or line. The surge protectors failing before your appliances would at least give you a less expensive appliance failure while you diagnose the root cause.

Good Luck

I had a fridge and dryer and TV all go within a month. The fridge was over warranty by one week, had a 1 yr warranty and they would not do anything ( needless to say I won't buy from there anymore) The dryer was 8 yrs old and the TV only 7 months and had to be repaired under warranty. However, the appliances of today are not the appliances that my mother had. Her washer, dryer, fridge etc lasted at least 30 years, even her clothes iron , they were well built out of steel and metal, not plastic.

Ever thought of getting your power lines checked?
Did you get a lightening strike when you were not looking?
Have you seen the movie Poltergeist? ;)

If it were not for bad luck I would have no luck at all. Seems like you and me have something in common.

I would come visit so you could cook me a meal, but there probably wouldn't be any fresh food in the place, and a microwave quicky is out of the question. And no point you offering to wash, dry and iron my clothes.
I would invite you over here, but I'd be scared of what you'd do to my TV, stereo and electronic door bell.

Good luck for 2007.... (Go check the warrantees)

My sister's washing machine quit 2 weeks ago. Her kitchen stove caught fire last week (it was brand new). Her husband has been remodeling one of her bathrooms for 6 months, so it's unusable. The pipes in her other bathroom started leaking 3 weeks ago, so she had to replace the floor in there. And, her 3 year old son has been in the hospital due to asthma problems 5 times in the last 3 months.

ive always heard that most major appliances tend to only last 10-15 years, not like in the old days, which explains your hairdryer issue. So they went out all about the same time, you can see why. Goodluck with knew stuff.

My parents have had to have a new boiler. Their shower leaked and has made the carpet, underlay and floorboards go mouldy, along with one wall in an adjoining room. All hall, stairs and landing carpet and underlay needs to be replaced and the bathroom ripped out and completely replaced. They have also had two roof leaks (two different roofs) and my poor Dad is also having problems with his car - the radio keeps turning itself on even when no-one is in or near the car.

Very High!!
Manufacturers these days make things to have a Short Life span!
If you want any appliance to last longer than 5 Year+ you need to spend some serious Bucks!!
