Chinese beliefs on sex?

Question

Do chinese people hold sex in high regard or is it frowned upon in china to talk about it or what? Is it a religious matter?

I know a few chinese folk and all are not comfortable on the subject. Also when out in pubs and clubs chinese girls do not seem to be keen on pulling and/or one night stands.

I pretty sure this whole thing has nothing to do with the one child policy.

It is not only the Chinese but Asian people in general for whom sex is rather a private matter.
The predominant reilgious beliefs of the region are Buddhist and Confucian - which is rather moralistic. Although the other traditional religion of the region - Daoism (Taoism) has little taboos about sex. E.g. Girls in China are taught by their parents, teachers and elders & culture that sex and openness about anything sexual is shameful and should be private among a married couple. Most unmarried couples are not even allowed to spend the night in the same house, even in separate bedrooms. It is more of a moral belief than a religious one. When I traveled to China, a female friend that i made told me most girls in school have short hair b/c the teachers told them that having long hair is slutty. I was shocked considering I have long hair.

I agree that it's the one child policy. We're talking about people who were killing their newborn if it was a girl because they wanted a son and could only have one child. Being barbaric is a poor form of birth control.
