I am thinking about going to Porto in Portugal this summer or autumn and wonder what is a "must see" or "must do" in this picturesque city.

Thanks!

I am not interested in going to night clubs, bars or going out dancing. I am more interested in cultural places/activities and art.

Hello.
The official tourism office as a compreensive website:
http://www.portoturismo.pt/en/init/default1.asp

I live in Porto and can tell you what my foreign friends like most:

Serralves Museum - a beautiful museum of contemporary art with magnificent gardens www.serralves.pt

Casa da Musica (House of Music) is a great new building with good musical shows www.casadamusica.pt

You can also taste good portuguese food at several restaurants. I personally recommend Casa Aleixo and D. Tonho (you can find adresses at the tourism website)

A magnificent place to visit is Casa de Chá da Boa Nova, a master work of the portuguese architect Alvaro Siza

You can also go to a bar or dance club like Triplex and several other. More information about night life in

If you tell me more about your preferences i can tell you more of my personal choices. But i think you can guide yourself in the tourism office website.

I hope this information was helpful!

Its a lovely old city. We just went walking around, tried the wonderful Port wine in some wineries. Here are some sites that might give you some more answers:

Besides seeing a futebol game? lol, really one of my best memories is stopping along the Ribeiro at a new wine bar/restaurant that has been built into one of the old port caves along that part of the street, its run by an Englishman Mike and his Portuguese wife Rita Maria-Therésa, it was a blustery spring day and we had a lovely bottle of Douro wine and strawberries and cream, it was a dream...they know and love the wine and food they sell and are always willing to chat...have fun!
