Okay last night I took my 15 year old to a basketball game at her highschool her and a friend of hers,so they said they'd get a ride back from a couple of friends. I said fine come straight home(school night),the game was over at 9pm.So she didn't come in until about 11:00pm saying that her friends had to drop some other people off and that she didnt answer her cell cuz it was dead,My husband and I were worried. So we were discussing her punishment and he says you shouldn't let her go to school tomorrow.I of course don't agree with it and said why,he says cuz her and her friends are going to laugh about it in school,I said they can laugh about it tomorrow if they were going to or Friday hell!I don't agree with missing school. If I am going to punish her,I'll find some other from like taking her phone away the weekend for lying and disobeying me!

Lin, I completely agree with you. Why give her the benefit of a little vacation day? That's like rewarding her for disobeying what you asked her to do. It's irresponsible to not at least call you. So no, I don't see his point. You are right on this one, I believe.

Keep her in school but punish her by taking several big items away from her (i.e. phone, tv, ballgames, videos) and give her some extra chores. Just a suggestion but education is important and the kids will find some other way to contact each other and laugh it off. Two hours does seem like a very long time to drop off a few friends. Good luck hope this helps.

Let her go to school and then take the phone of her and while she does not have the home ie ground her, BUT don't be hard on her, sit her down and have a talk and get her side of the story and then calmly give her your side of the story. Just tell her how worried you were and you were scared that something had happened to her and her friends. Don't forget to tell her how much you love her and that you were worried and while she is grounded, take her out and do fun things that do not involve money and if you can, show her your love and respect. Thinking of you and good luck. Just don't upset her and make her feel she is not trusted and remember we are not angles and we do make mistakes.

while i agree that schools these days are just glorified day care centers, and that for highschool kids its just a way of seeing all their friends and hanging out, there should be some other form of punishment if she really was lying. Take away the cell phone and tell her that if she cant remember to charge it, she isnt old enough to have it. try to put it all on her, dont dwell to long on how worried you were, she wont care or understand about that.

Send her to school, a missed education is dreadful and besides, what big deal could she be making in 2 hours including getting a ride and possibly dropping off kids, someone else is in control by doing the driving. Maybe they dragged their feet getting home ... possibly yes.
I would chalk it up as maybe she got me this time and take her phone away for a few days, but next time you make sure that you pick her up.

Sounds to me like she has a test she wants to miss. At least take away her cell phone (if not internet access too) for the weekend. You have to nip it in the bud before she gets even worse with lying and disobeying.

I agree with you that missing school is not the ideal punishment. I think what would be more traumatic and disiplinary is if you ban her from going to these school functions for at least a month. Think about it: I think she would be fine with not going to school because classes aren't the most interesting thing to do.

why dont you believe that other people got dropped off first? getting out of a ballgame takes time, say 20 to 30 minutes, then they dropped off three people... i can see it taking till 11pm.... has the child done something to make you not trust her?
her not going to SCHOOL is wrong! you keep her from school, you should go to jail!
get a grip and let it go!

I agree with you. Not letting her go to school as a punishment?? I don't know about your daughter, but my son would be thrilled with that punishment!!!!!
