My husband's SS card was badly damaged and had to get a new one. If your driver's license has your SS # on it, you don't need your birth certificate. If it does not, then, yes, you need your birth certificate. At least that's what our SS office told us.

You will need a birth certificate before obtaining a copy of your Social Security Card.

Go to ssa.gov They'll tell you exactly what to do. You'll need your birth certificate and another form of ID like a check or a bank statement - something that refers to your SS number.
It's shouldn't be a problem. Or call your local SS office. It might cost you a couple of bucks. You can get another card.

All you have to do is go to the place where you get your social security card, take your birth certificate, and identification...tell them you lost your SS card...and they will give you another one in the mail within 2 weeks

No...the SS office has a list of what constitutes ID. Call them first before maybe you already have documents that will allow you to get SS card replacement.
