if i click open file it opens as an email message exactly the same as ive received it, i can view other file attachments from people but not from btinternet or aol.

i cant see where it shows the type of file it is....says...type : internet file. name : what it about.eml

Some attachments are not allowed by some email providers as they can be used to send viruses. Normally this would be anything that could be executed such as a program file or screensaver file.

If you cannot open some certain files that means your system do not have the software to assist you in doing so.
For more details log on to www.microsoft.com there you can download free software that would enable you to view this files.

you need to let us know whether it is all attachments or just certain types of files eg PDF files or word files or JPEG files and so on.

Cheers for that Val. I did get a warning about a virus that does the same if you open it, its one of Bin Laden.
