Under no circumstances should any Common Land be sold off to anyone, specially not to private developers. Thousands of hill farmers in Wales and the English uplands, rely on common grazing rights for their sheep and cattle. A massive billion dollar industry would be put at risk. Margaret Thatcher found this out to her cost when she tried to sell off Common Land.

Common Land should be managed by the community who live on or near it. There are lots of pieces of Common Land here in London where I live. Wimbledon Common and Clapham Common spring to mind. If you live overlooking either of these commons, you are a Commoner with Commoner's Rights. Not sure what these rights are exactly, except perhaps you may be allowed to pick the mushrooms on the 10th Sunday in September.

There are also Commons in the Forest of Dean and the New Forest and Dartmoor and Exmoor. To take away these Commons and deny the Commoner's their rights, would lead to an insurrection, the like of which England has not seen since the 'enclosures'.

Sell it to a private company, and they have to develop it to make it pay. Bye Bye greenbelt, village common, woodland, etc, etc. Anyway, quangos aren't in charge of it, goverment and local council departments are.

there is no such thing as 'common land' as all land belongs to someone. If the owner becomes unknown then ownership reverts to the crown.

Leave it alone, leave it as it is. besides how can you sell something if you don`t own it? It belongs to the community.
