Pyromania is an intense obsession with fire, explosives, and their related effects. It is also an obsession with starting fires in an intentional fashion. An individual with pyromania is referred to as a pyromaniac. In colloquial English, the synonyms "firebug" and "firestarter" are sometimes used. Pyromaniacs are identified specifically as not having any other symptoms but obsession with fire causing their behavior. It is distinct from arson, and pyromaniacs are also distinct from those who start fires because of psychoses, for personal, monetary or political gain, or for acts of revenge. Pyromaniacs start fires to induce euphoria, and often tend to fixate on institutions of fire control: fire stations, firefighters, etc.

They're Pyromaniacs.
I can understand the attraction to fire. Have you ever just stopped and watched a flame on say, a candle, or a bonfire? The flames are multicoloured (red, orange yellow blue and white) and 'dance' about in a fascinating way. When I go to bonfire nights I find the bonfire more interesting than the fireworks.
I may like fire, but I'm not a pyromaniac. I've never caused any naughty fires, but the image of a flame is fascinating.

Pyromaniacs. There's a few of them in Australia at the moment because they've set half the country on fire. Something to do with their fathers. It's yet another control thing - it's an attention of some sort. Even though I can understand it - who doesn't like looking into a fire; if there's one there we all do! Must bring out the origin of species in us.

Pyromaniacs. I suppose they are attracted by the destructive element - also it is "prettier" than say a flooding or an explosion. Maybe it is just a step on from the enjoyment most people seem to obtain from watching the flames in an open fire eg in a grate
