I had almost had one eaten do to fact it was not recognizing my correct pin. The machine was malfunctioning.
If it is your banks atm and it located at a branch. Then go there today and ask for your card back-bring ID. Still go there to your Branch and tell them an atm ate your card.
If I ever use a foreign atm. I look for one that does not hold your card.

You probably left the card sit there for few seconds after you put it in. The machine is set to retain card and usually shred if you leave the card for any matter of time at all so if you were to forget and drive away the next car could not get it. Either that or you put in wrong pin.

It could have been for several reasons:
1. You took too long to put in you PIN.
2. You typed in the wrong PIN number -- you only get a few chances to get it right.
3. The ATM did not recognize your card number.
4. You waited too long to retrieve the card after the transaction was over.
Call the bank, and arrange to get your card back.

Sometimes if there's not enough money in your account, it will do it. Or if there's something wrong with the machine. It's easy to fix though. Call the bank, and they will give you your card back.

Could be a number of things, like a malfunction in the machine, power failure, or something of this nature.
