i have been unable to weight bear for seven weeks now. I have a screw in my ankle and have been told thats why I could not weight-bear. i have a hospital appointment soon and its seven weeks since i broke my ankle. I was wondering if they will take the cast off or leave it on until the screw comes out of my ankle.

Are they gonna take the screw out for sure? depending on the break if its has healed right they will take the cast off, they should take an xray so they can see, if it has healed right the cast will come off.

Well having the cast off all depends what sugery you had and what fracture you had too.The screws are holding the fracture together,so you wont be in a cast for mths, but the Consultant normally likes to wait and see if the fracture site is forming new bone and the fracture hasent moved at all, this is why you was not allowed to weight bear. But by now there should off been some new bone growing, and the fracture site should be getting stronger by now. Most off the time metal work holding fractures together usually stay in forever, the only time they et removed is if you are having major problems,or the metal work comes infected. When you go bck to the fracture clinic they will probably take the cast off and re x-ray,and just appy a tubigrip and partial weoght bear with the help off the crutches,or they will apply another cast for a further few wks,but as i said before this does all depend on the surgery and the fracture.Well Goo Luck and if you want further advice email me.I am a orthopaedic plaster technician so i know alot about the treatment etc.

They should do an x-ray before the cast is taken off. Your consultant will decide if it is safe for the cast to be removed.
You may require some Physio to get walking normally again.

My buddy George just had the same problem, and when they removed the cast they left the screws in for a period. Unfortunately his ankle collapsed and he's had to be re-screwed, and re-casted.

Good luck - but I think it also depends on your age and general health.

it depends on your age and your health. but most likely, once the cast is off, you'll still need to take it easy for awhile and the scews will be left in a bit longer. noooo weight bearing as of yet! you don't want to get started back up to soon.
Best wishes
