I am very upset with the Bangladesh Post Office..When I send my fiance a letter sometimes he gets it and sometimes he doesn't..I sent him a beautiful handmade Christmas card and he has not received it yet and i sent it well before Christmas...I put twice the amount of postage required and he still doesn't get it...What are they doing to my letter and why are they stealing it or throwing it in the trash can...Are they crazy? This makes me very upset..They did this last Fall with my pictures I sent him...I sent him nice pictures i made especially for him and he never got them...the address and postage are correct and verified so why they want to be soo hateful to me...Is it cause I am from USA? I think they hate USA and throw our letters in garbage can..Oh my! I am so upset

I think I have already replied to your question and would like to repeat here so that it comes to your notice:

I feel terribly sorry to know that Post Office in Dhaka did not deliver mail from you. I would like to apologize to you for the act of such corrupt people of my country.

It is sometimes reported in our newspapers that there are some corrupt people working in Post Offices who would intercept the incoming mails not only from developed countries, but also from the middle-eastern countries where Bangladeshi people are working and sending Bank Drafts and such valuables which the unscrupulous post-office people take out and deliver the letter to the addressee and sometimes they do trash these letters.

Therefore, it is always advisable to use UPS, DHL, FedEx and such courier services when documents and important items are sent. However, SpeedPost (EMS) is a lot cheaper than above mentioned courier services. You can even use US Post with registration or insurance or such measures that would be a lot cheaper than even EMS.

The bad people in post offices could hardly have any political agenda than their greed. Hence, please do not feel that US is single out by these people whose sole aim is to get-rich-quick!

Hope you could solve your problem. If you need any more info or help, please e-mail me and I will try my best to help you out.

ADDITIONAL INFO ON 11TH JANUARY:

Thanks for contacting me. No I am not offended as such, but it pains me to see the ever expanding corruption level of our government employees.

Let me share my story, about 12 years ago my Austrian counterpart from service life sent some gifts for my daughters. The post office imposed hefty charges (customs duty, taxes etc.) that made the prices of those about double. I did not mind paying that kind of money to get the presents, but it was illogical on the part of our Government to impose taxes on gifts. This is on top of extra money we need to pay to avoid delays or avoid threats of supplementary duties and taxes which are mostly non-existent!

My friend later sent $20 bills inside a letter to buy presents for my daughters but unfortunately the corrupt PO people opened the letter and took out the money. I came to know about this missing letter from his subsequent mails and cautioned him with thanks that our country’s rule forbids to send or receive money (legal tenders/Bills) enclosed inside envelope.

I am ending here today and if you like to hear more or get any info or help then you may send e-mail to me at mhafiz.ullah@gmail.com as the Y!A replies from this forum has bounced back from your address with warning like: Oops! ADDITIONAL INFO ON 12TH JANUARY:

Hello my friend!

Thanks for your reply and kind words. I do hope that your postcards to your friend would Dhaka would reach without any hindrance. In fact, I got one lovely picture-card (view-card) from one of my friends in Germany day before yesterday. We exchange New Year's Card every year and they always each destinations.

I have another recent story about our PO to share with you. A few months back one of our Chinese Buyers of PET Flakes (we ship to Shanghai) maintains office in California-USA. The Managers (both are Chinese citizen) sent earrings and such girls' fancy items in a nice metallic gift-box. What they did was sent me a picture of the items (as e-mail attachment) in the box earlier before sending them by post. When we paid all the monies to the PO and opened the box, to our surprise, we found that some of the items as shown in the pic were missing!

I would be happy to find more questions on Bangladesh to Answer in an objective manner, as far as possible. I would like exchanging ideas and news and it would be my pleasure to be able to inform you and others about our part of the world.

By the way, we had a lot of political disturbances going on here till yesterday evening when our President had to declare "Emergency" to put cap on the hooliganism let loose by some selfish politicians who held the people of this unfortunate country hostage to their whims. In general, we are a bit relieved from anxiety and uncertainties we were facing for the last few months of frequent Strikes and Blockades etc.

Hope you have goodnight's sleep and talk to you later...

Did you put the amount for the USA mail rate?

Also, when a letter goes that far, many people handle your letter and it could get lost easily. Nevertheless, most mail I send to South or Southeast Asia never make it through.

Try putting insurance on your letter next time.
