I have a main admin account, and one for each member of the family. Two admin for adults and two limited access for children. I had Bt Broadband and this worked with all of the accounts ok, but I have just installed the home hub, and although this is working fine of the main account, I cant get any of the other accounts to access the Internet.

I follow the prompts, signing into BTYahoo, doing the same for parental controls, but I am unable to get a connection from a user account. The main account works no problem. Any one got any ideas how to get round this?

I have also noticed that there seems to be no consistency between User accounts when installing software. I always install software on the main user account. Sometimes this software is available in the other user accounts sometimes it isn’t, there seems to be no rule about what becomes available to other users and what does not. Any Ideas how to manage this?

You are correct that some software installs for "everybody" and others only for the one account. MS is infamous for the "one account" and then wanting you to buy additional copies for each of the other users. (Their license is "one user on one PC" so legally they can do that).

Recommend that you re-run the install for each account. This means that you might have to switch the kid's account to admin accounts long enough to do the install, and then switch them back to limited. But that should resolve the issue.

Usually when you install software, there is an option whether to make this available only to you or to anyone who uses the machine. Make sure you make it available to anyone who uses the machine. It sounds like this could be what you are missing. Also, if you set up those user accounts with minimal rights, they may not be able to install software, so reinstalling for each account (as suggested above) will mean adding them all to the administrators group first (and probably removing them again afterwards).

Might want to check or reinstall the software you are using for the connection and make sure it is available to all. Might also want to check Local Security Policy to make sure it isn't locking things down a bit. I had a bit flipped on that recently (I suspect by some maintenance that was put on) that caused some flaky errors.

Try logging on as the administrator, then changing the kids accounts to admin long enough to get the home hub working. Log off then on to each of the kids accounts. Sort out your firewall and software permissions. Then switch them back. Its probably a permissions problem.
If not then try BT for support since its the home hub causing the issue not XP. We access the net from a ltd account with no problem - I made the account admin temporarily just to get all the software permissions set up.

Another alternative is to have a seperate ltd account for accessing the net. You have to log off your account, then log on to the internet account to surf but you get used to it and its safer. If you want to download anything you download to the desktop, scan the file for viruses and spyware, then drag it to the My Docs folder. It can be accessed from an admin account and installed if its software.
To set that up just make it a temp admin account, then when you've got it sorted log in to your admin account and change the permissions.

The first i suggest you to do is to check your computer description and name, they are very important to the identification of your computer on the network.
I use BT as well and i have three accounts set up on my system, they are doing fine.
To check it out Click on start/control panel/performance and maintenace/system, it will show you everything you have to know.
In terms of problem with the software you just need to switch from one user account to the other and if they are not installed, first check to see if the software icon appears in any part of your screen - double click and run it you should be fine.If they do not appear start point to all programs and continue your installation as soon as you find it there.
