I did a little research and noted that Jet is usually found off the coast of England. However my husband found a piece off the coast of Massachusetts.

What is the likelyhood of this and how long would it take Jet to make it the United States?

Jet is a dense black form of the mineral lignite, which is a variety of coal.

Mined for centuries in the British Isles, it is plentiful in several other parts of the world and has been dug from Utah to Canada. The piece your husband was probably a random finding. It could not have gotten to that location without the intervention of humans.

Jet was used and traded by many tribes of indigenous North Americans and also imported by Europeans. Sounds like someone lost a piece or even a shipment.
