your question indicating that you know something about accounting. but you don't know that much details that is necessary. so start searching on the topic which you think you are weak at it. if you have no idea definitely you have to search for good book regarding to accounting principles. after you finish reading this book you will get the idea.

Buy books or go interview several expereinced accountants and you will get the idea very quickly.
Practice adding columns and rows and make sure they balance.
