When I do not log off but simply shut down my personal computer this message appears "Other people are logged onto this computer. Shutting down Windows might cause them to lose data. Do you want to continue shutting down?" I do not understand this as I am the only person who has authorised access to this p.c.. Does this literally mean that other personnel are using the computer without my knowledge or have I completely misunderstood? I am not particularly IT literate and any comment from Yahoo viewers would be welcome.

Log them off dude. Has your missis or kids got accounts that they are accessing when you are not on the PC. Go to the shut down menu and select log off.

Hello Dude,

Are you doing any file sharing with your computer?

How are you connected to your ISP? Did you plug the modem right into your PC or do you have a LAN (Local Area Network)

Most of the time when I see this, a person has/had opened an RDP session to your computer, and is indeed using your computer.

Do this to check. Stop the shutdown and do a CTRL+ALT+DEL and select Task List. Goto the Processes Tab, and on the bottom make sure the "Show processes from all users is checked. Scroll through the list to see what is going on. If someone has an rdp session, it might show-up as another "user name".

As a user above put it, this does happen everytime you just switch users. I don't know why they did this, but the "Allow service to interact with Desktop" option in the services will choose the first login and hold onto it.

Good Luck.

Tom

As a consumer above positioned it, this does ensue whenever you purely swap shoppers. i do no longer understand why they did this, however the "enable provider to work together with laptop" determination interior the amenities will pick the 1st login and carry onto it. good success. Does anyone else have an account on your computer ?

Anyone who has an account on your computer then it's likely they have logged in and not logged off of the computer before you went to shutdown.

A good way to find out who is on the computer logged on is going into your Task Manager (ALT CTRL DEL) and at the bottom put a tick in the Show processes from all users and this will show you everything from who is logged on and to what they are running.

get someone capable with windows to make sure you have no file shares on your PC. it might be that others are logging into your PC. Alternatively, are you on a LAN? Sometimes the LAN itself is virtually "logged on" to your PC for administrative purposes. Third opton is that you log on and off as different users - but you say you're not very computer literate so I doubt you're doing this.

Please make sure you are running firewall protection. (ie Zone Alarm)
Make sure you didn't just log into an extra account on your system.
Run periodic antivirus and spyware checks (geting rid of back door software)
to check what other users are logged in press Ctrl+Alt+del click the users tab, if you see someone you don't recognize kick him off, right click on name click Disconnect.

Are you part of a home network or have wireless on your machine they could be logged in that way too.

If this seems too over you head and no other comments answered your question call in a PC technician.

Is your pc a standalone or is it connected to a network? if its on a network that means theres other accounts on the pc. If you are the only person who has access to your pc, then you all you need to do is go into start>control panel> user accounts. And you can cancel the other account from there. It could also be possible that if you bought the pc 2nd it could be possible that it was used as part of a network. I hope this works. If you have any further problems or you don't understand then email me and explain it further.

Sounds like your computer is attached to some type of a network and that you have file sharing turned on. Someone else on the network is access your computer throught the network and looking at, copying, etc. your files.

Or if you have a printer that is shared, that will cause the same messages of someone else has printed to your printer.

If you do not want them getting in to your computer, you need to turn off file sharing and print sharing. Then they will be unable to attach to your computer. If your computer is running wireless, you need to check the security settings on your wireless router and add a WEP or WPA password.

well it should only do that if u have more than one name or profile to log on with?? so if u are going on in one name and swapping log in users with out shutting them down it will say this. It will not delete anything on the computer only if there is work that has not been saved so dont worry!!
