why do we need knives and forks?

Coz it's the proper way to eat food. Depends on what you are eating though. But I had to admit I hate chopsticks.

From an evolutionary standpoint, as beings who were living in caves, trying to create fire and killing wildlife for food, forks and knives are completely a societal creation. A way to distinguish the polite people of society against the more "barbaric" ones who are too poor and "uncivilized" and eat with their hands. But at one point, all of our ancestors used hands to tear apart and consume all our meals. Some countries developed into chopsticks, an alternative and perhaps a more santizied way to eat without the knife and fork.

we really dont need them I use my nails as a knife and my fingers as a fork when I want to eat!:P
