He is in pain, has a lot of swelling, and has to wait 6-months before his insurance will cover surgery. I told him he needs to get it drained with a needle, but he wants to wait until his insurance kicks in. Is this dangerous & why? What can he do for the discomfort & pain? Is there a way to make the hydrocele deflate without a needle or surgery?

He absolutely needs to see a doctor because it can cause serious damage. Talk to a general practitioner and tell them the deal.
