Andelska is right!
From the port of Piraeus (only 15 mins on subway from Athens center) you can catch a ferry to Aegina (35 - 80 mins depending on the kind of the boat - e.g. there are hydrofoils and classic ferries) or Angistri (90 mins) in the Saronic Gulf. Both islands are very beautiful and on Aegina there is the ancient temple of Aphaea Athena, which is very interesting.
But if you want to leave from the port of Lavrion (approx. 1 hour from Athens by car or bus) you can go to Kea (Tzia - 90 mins.) which is very picturesque and cozy.
There is also the island of Salamina, but I don't think it's worth visiting...

Salamina is only 15-25 minutes froma Pireus(the port)! But it's not worth it! Aigena is about 40-60 minutes away from Pireus!
I recomend you though to go to Andros! It's only 2 hours away, but it is much more beautiful than any other island around!

It depends on the port you will use.If you leave from port of Pireaus the closest is Aegina which is very nice.
But if you leave from port of Lavrio in eastern Attica the closest island is Kea or Tzia which is really really great.

Aegina is the closest island worth visiting and within short distance from Pireaus port by flying dolphin.. it has a nice little port and a friendly quayside..
