....I believe that Jim Carrey, up to a point, based himself on him!

Jerry Lewis by himself was incredibly funny - the Nutty Professor and the Disorderly Orderly and the Bellboy were my favourites. I don't think he is really appreciated over here but I think some of the indivual routines he did were genius.

While not a huge fan of either Lewis or Carrey, Jerry Lewis is one of those characters who tends to grow on you. Carrey too, to a point. I did like him a lot in "Sunshine of the Spotless Mind".

If you wish to see what Jerry Lewis COULD be like, "The Delicate Delinquent" is pretty good. He did another movie in the 60s, where he is an alien named Kreton (or "cretin") in "Visit to a Small Planet", which is quite good.
He also has a hilarious cameo in Billy Crystal's "Mr. Saturday Night".
As the voice of Professor Frink's father in "The Simpsons", he is without parallel. Hank Azaria based his character on Dr. Kelp in the original "Nutty Professor" which is also not a bad movie.

Most of the other ones, "The Bellboy", "Boeing, Boeing", "The Geisha Boy" etc. are not at all to my comic tastes.

I found him very annoying. He was teamed with Deano, Dean Martin, for some time and Deano played the stooge to Jerry's 'humorous' character. He made me cringe. Funnily enough, so does Jim Carry in some of his more extreme roles and I had not made the connection previously, so yes, perhaps he did!

He simply got on my nerves. I couldn't stand him to be honest, which is odd really because I don't like Jim Carey either, except for the film Man on the Moon.

Jerry Lewis, rubbish. If you want someone daft falling about, Norman Wisdom's your man.

Honestly everyone you talk to who remembers him will say he was annoying or whatever but I like him. He was funny & his movies were funny :)

Yes I remember him, never really cared for that style of humour.
