most of the people that answer like that aren't really interested in getting their point across, they just want to stir up as much trouble as possible.

if they are trying to make a point they should realize that ranting just makes them seem unintelligent.

Have you ever considered that some of the people on one side or the other of a heated debate are not trying to get their point across, but just voicing their opinion in general? Take religious arguments for example. Nine times out of ten you are not going to convince a religious person to change their views. Some people know this and instead of trying to change that person's view, just want to voice their disgust over the whole subject? Freedom of speech is one of the great things about America. If you don't like someones comment or view, ignore it. No one is forcing you to listen. Just because you don't agree, doesn't mean they don't have the right to say it.

It depends on the purpose of the debate.

If you are trying to solve a problem, that kind of thing is counter-productive.

If you are trying to win an election, its par for the course and you will loose if you are foolish enough to be ethical.

Regardless of political affiliation, look at debates in politics over the past say 40 years.

How important is honesty and integrity? Apparently, not very. Whose fault is that? The master-debaters or the electorate?

This isn't for debates, this is for answers to questions.

P.S. I try to refrain from debating with anyone unless I know the material like the back of my hand. When debating I try to show all sides possible thus negating myself getting pinned in a corner.

Thank you....No one likes to be attacked so why do it? Why not come up with a solution to the "problem" and debate that. It just might work eh?

What are you talking about on here it's about having your say. Everyone is intitled to say what they want even if it is wrong or right. That is just life. Wouldn't it be a boring place if everyone was the same.

I think people that are regugnant about politics are that way about any views they have about any topic. Shoving one's views someone's throat only makes people go away.
