We can take close-up pictures of the planets, we've cured some
cancers, we stay in constant communications with cell-phones,
we have our music with us everywhere, we will soon be able to
watch tv on the go, dogmatic christians have exercised their
muscles politically for the first time, a renegade 'little cowboy' is now
president and firing off his six-shooters and riding his pinto roughshod
over every perceived villain on horseback, but do you
feel safer? Is the world a safer and more peaceful place?

It is because the human race has completed the process of conquering just about every tiny speck on this earth and we are getting bored with ourselves.

Well, for starters, the "wild west' wasn't what you imagine. For the most part, it was a lot of people struggling to survive.

Neither is Bush what you imagine. Had anyone asked you, "How long before Iraq has the BOMB" you would have thrown up your hands and said, "F*** if I know!" Bush may have pursued bad intel, but the closest parallel in his administration is probably to that of Abraham Lincoln, who, with less provocation, shot down American citizens in the streets of New York, imprisoned 30,000 newspaper editors who disagreed with him, and presided over the deaths of more than 500,000 Americans.

Bottom line: You're getting cranked up over the wrong issue. The erosion of Constitutional rights (the Constitution - a document you've never actually READ) is more important than everything we've poured into Iraq.
