There are an infinite amount of dots on a line segment. Because it's a solid line, between any two distinct points, there will always be a point in between.
Consider the line segment y = 1, from 0 to 4.
What number lies in between 0 and 4? The answer to that is 2.
0 and 2? 1
0 and 1? 1/2
You can see this will continue infinitely, resulting in an infinite amount of points.

Two points. One starting point and one ending point, this is why it is called a segment.
