Its plastic - so keeps the water warm longer.
You can chuck dregs down the side & it still goes down the plug hole.
When she really gets on your nerves you can lift out all that dirty washing up water and chuck it over her!

If you've got old tea in a cup, for example, you can tip it down the side of the bowl. Otherwise do you just stick it in with the washing-up?
Also if someone wants to use the sink while you're soaking something in the bowl you can just lift it out & put it on the draining board.
Uses less water. You'd have to rinse out the sink.

I'll give you my reasons for using one
> Save plates and glasses getting scratched
> Dont like the sound of cutlery scratching on metal
> Can still pour stuff down sink while mid wash up
> Saves plug getting blocked when peeling spuds/veg
> Saves water - thus helps the environment a little more!
> And - i havent got a plug in my sink!!!

They provide a bit of protection if you have an enamel sink. They can also be useful if you don't have a double sink and want to rinse particulary dishes or pour away liquid left in glasses you can do so over the edge. However, if you have a metal or plastic double sink, then they are pretty pointless!

Always had one at home so I had one when I got a place. When I moved recently I went from a stainless steel sink to a sort of fibreglass one. I bined the bowl and am much happier. Can get the gib things in to soak no problems!!

My flat came fully furnished, and had a bowl in the sink. My folks always used one and I just continued this trend. I never asked myself why, I just did.
Thinking about it now it is to save damage to the sink and the cutlery. Makes sense really.
I'm a guy, BTW

well you would throw unhygienic things down the sink, like maybe water from mopping, blood from some meat, sour milk. You can avoid the bowl or remove it therefore rest knowing the bacteria wont pass on to pots.

Have to agree with snooksville. It stops your sink from getting scratched, is more hygenic (you can replace your bowl if it gets mucky - you can't replace your sink as easily), and helps to prevent scratches etc on the items you are washing.

If you have to leave something to soak you can still use the sink by taking the bowl out of it.

1) it saves water
2) If you wash other stuff in the sink then it is more hygenic to wash up in a bowl
