I was thinking about buying the above computer and it seems like the best one. I am buying from a rent to own place so there's not a wide selection. Would this one be a good one to buy? I will be surfing, writing reports and doing other school stuff on it. They don't have a duo core, the highest they offer is a Pentium 4.

I am surprised at all the answers you've received ... yet nowhere do you mention how much it will cost you.

That's what I need to hear to give you a worthy reply.
Good for what you need = yes.
Worth buying ... I have no clue.

Sounds like a pretty powerful machine. Should be more than enough to handle what you want to do. But you might want to shop around. Maybe a less powerful system would be less expensive, but still be able to handle the work you need to do on it. I have a Pentium 4, 1.0 Ghz, 512meg RAM, 160 GB HD, DVD/RW. Just bought it about a month ago for $299 (after rebates). I do pretty much the same stuff on it as you're describing and it has no problem handling the work.

This computer would work for the purposes you stated.

BUT, have you though about how much this thing will cost you from a rent to own place? Do the math.... payment times number of weeks paid.... this usally equals 2 to 3 times the amount the thing would cost brand new. It is never a good economic decision to rent to own something for 3 times its value.

I understand if you don't have the cash to purchase outright, but you would still be better off borrowing from a friend or family member and setting up a repayment plan with them then to purchase from a rental place.
