My first reaction was to tell you that my favorite musical is My Fair Lady and it has a very interesting story too based on Pygmalion.
But now I think the most interesting musical is Cabaret. It has the story of the complicated relationship between the singer in the Cabaret and the writer who fall in love. It also shows the rise of the Nazis to power and their relationship with German society. I think the two different aspects of the musical make it very interesting. It's a musical that really asks the audience to think about what is going on rather than just be entertained or sing along.
Thanks for your very interesting question.

Most of Sondheim's musicals. Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods, A Little Night Music, Sunday in the Park with George...the music is gorgeous, the acting is gorgeous, and it's always not your typical theatre experience. I guess I'm a Sondheim snob but he always puts such substance into his shows, not simply spectacle.

Once on this Island is one of the most interesting musicals I know of....how the premise is based on "My Love My Love" by Rosa Guy and its a take on the "The Little Mermaid" tale but its with a twist dealing with French black peasants and grandhommes, four gods that are: Agwe-God Of Water, Erzulie- Goddess of Love, Asaka- Mother of the Earth and Papa Ge- Demon of Death....it has such great songs, great dialogue, its a twist at the end that you wouldnt expect....its a beautiful story and a beautiful musical.....

I think Miss Saigon is very interesting. It doesn't just tell some light, fluffy story with singing and dancing. It really tackles some serious issues both during and after the Vietnam war, but also has beautiful music and a haunting story line.

Oh, this is a hard one. I like "Wicked." Actually, I'm a little obsessed. I also like "The Wizard of Oz," "The Sound of Music," "The Phantom of the Opera," and Rogers and Hammerstein's "Cinderella."
Yes, I'm going with "Wicked." It's about the Wicked Wtch of the West (real name Elphaba) and Glinda "before Dorothy dropped in." The music is amazing, and the story is so compelling. The musical is nothing like the book.

The sound of music is one of my favorites mainly because in my youth I sang in the choir and sang a few of their songs. I wasn't really in a play for that. I did watch movie version and I really liked Julie Andrews character. She had a very powerful voice and still continues to act.
