I have always had a "let bigons be bigons" attitude and "as long as they do it in doors" attitude towards gays, but i have just been shopping with my son and as walking through the shop just turned and noticed a couple holding hands head leaning on one another. chubby spikey hair tight top to reduce breast size and big boots and loads of rings the usual stereotypical gay women. My question is, im sure some time back it was illegal for gay couples to hold hands in a public place. Is it still illegal? also what do you feel about it?

In answer to some of your questions, why do i feel they shouldnt? because its my opinion, its not supposed to be, yes its the 21st century but thats because of people like who are so PC, he has to give people what they want as to get their votes... Holding hands i wondered if was illegal, as for kissing in the street, infront of my child id definately approach them ask them to stop.. same as i would someone injecting themselves in the street or graffitting the wall.. dont want my son growing up thinking its ok & "normal" because this is the 21st century... will be shagging our own mums but hey it will be the 22nd century.

No, lady. It is not illegal and never has been. Imagine yourself in our position, having to endure so many str8 couples grossing us out with their public displays of affection. All that kissing and holding hands. Can't you people keep it in the bedroom where it belongs? Don't you know that our gay children might be unduly influenced and become str8 by your example? If there isn't a law against str8 folks then there ought to be.
Now then, doesn't that sound preposterous? Well that is exactly the way that you sound right now, the hysteria creeping into your voice.
I was not saying any such thing. I was being melodramatic to exemplify how absurd your equation is. There is nothing wrong with displays of affection. And if it's love, the Lord surely won't mind. Does it matter so much who you love? And how are you going to keep your child from seeing the world as it is? Realistically? Go live in a cave somewhere in the Hebrides? Why not Live and Let Live instead? The world would be a much nicer place for all of us.

I am a gay girl who dresses girly! I have many friends who are the "stereotypical gay woman" as you say and dont think you can be very liberal if you are opposed to two PEOPLE holding hands. Let me ask you this question imagine you were in a city walking along and you were the only straight couple with gay couples all around how would you feel... honestly! Your son needs to grow up seeing things like this, so his generation can accept it. I love my girlfriend very much and would love to have the courage to walk around holding hands, but I cant because of people having your opinion and I do care, even though I shouldnt just think how I feel when straight couples walk along holding hands and no one bats an eyelid... personally I think it is rude when straight couple kiss in public so I would not agree with it for gay couples either but I dont think holding hands is inappropriate for anyone. And NO it is not illegal!!!

i'm worried that your son is growing up with such a narrow mind. I am gay and my partner is a nanny, i often spend time with her boss and children and the result has been a very open minded young boy with no predjudice.
If more children were brought up with an undertstanding of the diverse society which now exists (whether u agree with it or not) then society would be greatly improved and would diminish such ridiculous ignorance and predjudisms.
As for holding hands in public being illegal- what rubbish! so homosexuals are able to marry and not hold hands in the street???????

No, it isn't illegal in the U.S., which is the way it should be. I don't think it ever was illegal, but back in the day it would be very unwise to do so. (They'd probably get beat or shot 30-40 years ago.)
I think that it is good that some have the courage to display their affections for one another, even if some look down upon it. Nothing wrong with holding hands, hugging or even kissing. I'm not advocating public displays of erotica or anything like that, only PG stuff in public.

what era are you from, the stone age? they were holding hands, big deal! that's nothing in comparison to the straight couples I see with their tongues down each others throats in public. holding hands is no big deal. I hope you don't teach your child to be a disrespectful, close-minded bigot like you are. what if your son comes out to you as gay one day? will you throw him out? disown him? and not all gays and lesbians are the "stereotypical" types you describe anyway. why do close-minded people always believe in lies, assumptions and generalizing stereotypes instead of the truth? it's not illegal, but if you want that to be illegal, then all pdas by anyone, gay or straight, should be illegal. go back to your cave!

So you've come into this room completely unprompeted with no other reason but to degrade the gay population.... suspicious.
And I've noted in your answer history that you've posted a response in favor of performing anal sex on a different question... quite peculiar.
You know what they say: homophobics are the next homosexuals (repressed or otherwise).

holding hands is fine. how do you know two people of the same sex holding hands are homosexual and not just family or friends or whatever?
i agree that no one should be making out in the streets, gay, straight whatever. I hate when people stand in the middle of my sidewalk just making out. A modest kiss is one thing, but i mean really

You think we belong behind closed doors? Sorry, but I see men and women hugging and kissing outdoors all the time. We're allowed to be the same way. I don't know if it ever was illegal but it sure as hell isn't illegal now. I'll hold my baby's hand anywhere I want. If it bothers you, you don't have to look.

Holding hands in public is not illegal. Only the most narrow minded person is going to think it should illegal. I hope you haven't been poisoning your son's mind with hatred, no matter how subtly done. The lad deserves better than that.
