Hi. I'm after some advice: i've got an interview at a bank on Friday and if i'm wearing a darker coloured skirt suit with a lighter blouse, what colour should my shoes and hosiery be? And why does everyone seem to be plumping for stayups as opposed to suspenders/garters these days? I thought the belts worked better? Do stayups actually work for all day though? Which arew best? I don't want them rolling down mid-interview!! i'll definately be wearing a skirt as i don't do trouser suits. Its very difficult to know what to do but i have to create the right impression coz first impressions count! And just how short/long should i go with my skirt? i know the general guide is 1 inch above the knee but isn't that too long? I'm after advice on proper attire coz want best chance possible. Also, when sitting down in the in the interview, is it best to go cross-legged or another position?

ThanksClaire x

I would recommend Natural tone / Tanned hose - if you are going for hold-ups Aristoc have some absolutely brilliant ones - otherwise go to reputable underwear shop - these stay-ups are more expensive but they do stay in place - as long as your thighs are not too big - if worried wear a belt and the stay-ups - you will be nervous already and do not want to worry about your stockings! The shoe colour depends on the colour of your outfit - black for Grey/ navy tones - Dark Tan for all browns and greens - a bit of a heel - go for a 1960's style platform shoe. Skirts as this is an interview and you want to make the right impression I would go for a tight pencil skirt that is below the knee and that has a slit in the front - this way it is both demure and sexy - remember you want to be remembered for your abilities. Don't cross your legs but rather cross them at the ankles and then sit at an angle. See some of the links below

If you are wearing a dark suit Claire then you should be wearing barely black or black stockings, with black shoes. Hold ups are fine as long as you have the right size, they should stay up all day without cutting off your circulation.
A knee length skirt is fine, NO shorter, remember banking institutes are very respectable places.
As for sitting down, cross your ANKLEs, NOT your legs, you'll be showing your thighs and that isn't very good in an interview.

I would go for nice smart black heels [ but only a little heel] you don't want to trip or tower over anyone.
my friend runs her own business and she always says that when people come for an interview she is always looking at shoes , hands and hair.
oh and belts work better.
wear your skirt just above the knee , a nice pencil skirt.
make sure your hair is brushed and groomed and if you want to look a bit smarter wear one of those neck scarf things .
and legs crossed and shoulders back
good luck

Well. I would prefer a darker skirt suit with a lighter blouse. Shoes-Black and polished.

Hope this helps.
