After watching the movie Troy, and being able to successfully ignore that Orlando Bloom was incredibly annoying, I fell in love with Paris as a male name.

In the future I plan on adopting and naming a boy Paris. I wonder what other people think of this name for a boy, so have at it.

Think it's too feminine sounding?
Don't like that it's connected with Paris Hilton?
Just don't like the name?

I'm interested in knowing.

And I fail to see how other kids would mock my son for being named Paris. Names are getting more and more extravagant. By the time I get around to actually adopting, Paris will probably sound pretty tame. ;)

Also, keep in mind that I am a relatively young person. Most adoption agencies prefer to deal with people 30-50 years of age, with a stable job and home. I'm working towards being a police officer, and it takes years to get promotions that would allow a person the home and income suitable for child rearing. It could be 20 years before I'm in the situation which would allow me to adopt. Do you think anyone is going to remember Paris Hilton by that time? Highly unlikely. Also, as I already stated, names are becoming more and more extravagant. I wouldn't be surprised if Paris was a common name by that time. The chance of children making fun of my future child for his name is slim. Also, I think there's something of a moral fallacy in the whole 'name your child something unusual, risk them getting made fun of for it' thing. That's hardly a reason to name a child something. That's along the lines of saying that gay parents shouldn't be allowed to raise children because the kids might get ma

made fun of. People are trying to cure the symptom, not the cause. Children will always make fun of other children for things, and I am not of the mindset that people should go out of their way completely to make sure this doesn't happen. I've seen children who were babied, and can't take criticism from anyone without bursting into tears. It's a part of life, and something like a name isn't going to make it worse.

Also, unless the public school system improves by leaps and bounds before I adopt, I will not be sending my child to one. He would either go to a private school like the one I went to, in which I was never made fun of and never witnessed anyone else being made fun of, or I will home school him if I have the time and resources.

And I don't just like the name because I think it sounds "cool". I've always loved mythology, and as some people know Paris isn't just a name made up by some socialite's mother, nor is it just the name of a city. Paris is a man who appears in a number

it's not feminine at all. Paris is a Greek name for sure, not so common, but it is connected with the Greek Mythology. If you like it go for it. For me is perfect.(even thought I dislike Paris Hilton)

I think Paris is an interesting choice for a name. Currently, there's a lot of stuff flying around in the media, associated with the female Paris. But I'd say I have to agree with a lot of people on here - Paris is more a girl's name than a guy's name. Yes, the character in the movie Troy is a male named Paris, but think about it, the plot of the movie was in the time when no one really cared about how the names sounded, back in the days of Troy. Nowadays if you give a boy a girl's sounding name or a girl a guy's name, you can be sure they will be tormented unmercifully by their peers all their life. That's the problem with picking city names, unusual names, or "gender neutral" names - people are insensitive anymore and they don't really care. I think it is a beautiful name for a girl though. But that's all personal opinion. He'll be your baby, so the choice is ultimately up to you!

If this is your first child, then it explains why you say you fail to see how other children would mock your son for being named Paris. Trust me. It happens. The only reason I would stray from the name Paris is due to the fact that your child would be linked with Paris Hilton. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Paris is a traditional Greek male name. I like it. It's different. Since Paris is a city which has no gender, I don't see Paris as being either a typically male or female name. If you like it, you go girl! It's your kid, ultimately so name it whatever you want. I don't think Paris is that far out. Atleast it's not ghetto fabulous!

Not too bad for a boy but I would never use it on a girl due to the Hilton connection.

If you choose to use it on your son, if asked, you could always say that you were inspired by William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet for your reason for naming the boy Paris.

Paris is a male's name, don't listen to the other's
Paris Hilton's parents named her a boy's name. I wouldn't necessarily name my kid that, but I like it.

My cousin has a little boy that is 3 named Paris. It is adorable. It is definately a unisex name. He is named after his father, who was named after his Grandfather SO obviously Paris isn't a "new" boys name.

Take Care,
SD

I'm not crazy about that name as a boy's name. I would never name my child Paris, because I wouldn't want people to think that they are a spoiled prima donna airhead no talent like Paris Hilton.
