No quick answer, it depents on make and model of printer (not supplied), best to take some time and use search engine with printer number or cartridge numbers and see what sites come up and then check the prices. Hope this of some help

I personally prefer to refill mine, but for some reason, my refill kit doesn't work like it should, so I take mine to the pros to have them refilled. Most malls should have a ink refill island store. It costs more than an ink refill kit, but they know what they are doing, and have been trained. And they guarantee their work. But once your ink cartridge is done for, recycle it, and if you have kids, ask if they have a program for recycling it, so the school gets the money.

If you are talking HP or Lexmark, these have integral print heads, which does make them expensive. This also makes them patentable, so no-one else can manufacture cheap copies. However, this does have one advantage for us, the consumer - all "remanufactured" (ie. refilled) ones must be genuine, so to speak.
