you know what! that is a messed up thing to say! it is not because there parents did not spank them it is because of people like you. spanking children these days is referred to as child abuse. i think maybe your parents should have taught you a little thing called respect. they are people to and no one should be treated with such disrespect Except people like you!

Spank or not spank, some children are cry-babies because their personality is such. I am definitely for spanking if it brings the necessary result. Children are so different that some do not respond to spanking at all. But there are so many other methods that you can use to discipline your child. The most basic ones are time-outs which work very well with some children but never worked with my daughter (3y. 3mo.) and withdrawing a priviledge - which always works :-). If the child is still young, that would mean to take away temporarily the things that they want most - a favourite toy, TV time, etc. As a parent you should try everything to find what will bring obedience, and when you find it, USE IT!!! There is nothing more annoying than a spoiled child that is used to ALWAYS getting whatever s/he wants.
And another thing, other than crying for being hungry, tired or sick, a child might put all that show to draw your attention. So every time a child cries, ask yourself - am I too busy to pay attention?
Those are things that every parent knows in general, except for new parents who have to discover things as they go. So I hope my advice will be helpful to some.
If your question was rhetoric and you just wanted to vent some frustration, find a good friend in the same situation and share regularly. It helps.

There are cultures and families where children are never spanked and are treated like adults. Yet children do not become cry babies. So if children are cry babies, they are seeking attention which might have been re-enforced by patronizing behavior of the parents

Oh don't worry, the emo kids will die out soon enough. Have you noticed how much fewer goths there are now than a few years ago? They're a dying breed.
Spanking is the most effective punishment tool a parent can wield, so long as they know how to properly use it.

yes and yes...absolutely...most of it comes from the liberal, everyones a victim, attitude. kids do not have the strength of self reliance and a good work ethic...instead its the art of the con and whats in it for me. most are truly victims of what i call the nancy pelosi, everyones a winner syndrome when they realize that the we all will take care of each other society is a myth. eventually people have to realize that you need to provide for yourself and the things and life appreciated most is what you work hard for.

No I think it's coz their parents do not teach them to be a needed person and to appreciate all they have.
