Autocad works in "Drawing Units", and somewhere in the printing dialog you can set drawing units = millimetres or whatever. Unless you really are certain it can be a bit trial and error to set up. Suggest you try a very simple drawing of a straight line of known length as a trial to get a feel for it. Can' be more specific as you don't say what version you are using

Hi there. I'll try and explain it as simple as possible. Printing to scale is only possible from layout tab. Click on layout tab. You should now see a black or white background showing your drawing within a simple frame. Select that frame and delete it. Your drawing will disapear. Don't panic it will not be erased. Now go to pull down menu "File" (top left) and select Page Setup Manager and "modify" the layout. Go through the motions by selecting the Printer, Print size etc. Most important here is to select the plot scale 1:1! When finished the size of layout on your screen adjusts to your selected print size. Now type mview in the command line and then "F" for "fit". Your drawing will now appear fitting exactly on the paper size you have selected, for example A3. If you want to print your drawing to 1 in 1000 you have zoom in/out to scale. This is done by typing "mpace" in the command line then type z for zoom and s for scale. Now a value is required. This value depends on your drawing units. If you have drawn in millimeter the value you'd type for 1 in 1000 is 0.001xp, if you have drawn in meters the value would 1xp. Your drawing should be to scale after pressing enter. Now you just have to leave model space by typing pspace. You may have to play around with this. One last tip. To get the value to use with the zomm to scale command is simple. You divide 1 with the scale (i.e. 200, 250, 500 etc.) and depending on your drawing units the value needs adjusting by decimal places. Hope that helps.

for a really good paperspace tutorial check here:
http://www.we-r-here.com/cad/tutorials/level_2/2-4.htm

but contrary to the previous post, it can be done in modelspace, many people produce scale drawings with out ever going to paperspace.
Look up "plot scale" in the help files, the is a subdirectory there that is "on the model tab" read that.

good luck

The option is there itself when you are opening a project. If you can't set it, go to help menu and read the scale
