My girlfriend has about 20 pairs of £200+ shoes, I have none, I have 2 pairs of shoes, and a few pairs of trainers and that gets me by just fine... she also has about 20 £200+ handbags, why? what do girls like about these things so much?

You can never have too many shoes or handbags (or scarves). Sad isn't it, I am dreadful for buying shoes and bags. I would never spend that much on them though as they are just fashion throwaway items.

Well, I'm a woman and I own no shoes, I'm a full-time barefooter, and even when I still wore shoes I had a few pairs only. I also only have one handbag, well I think I have two others but it's too much work to switch, I just grab my one little pouch that's almost falling apart but it's so handy! So the fascination with shoes and handbags isn't a universal thing.... I don't see what's so great about this consumerism and shopping at all, I do have a collection of cool clothes -lots of gothic stuff- but I usually pick that up at various festivals and the like too... I hate shopping -unless it's at a bookstore :-)

I think that's disgusting. No that's harsh, I think she has a problem.
How could anyone live with the guilt of buying one pair of £200 shoes let alone 20! Firstly there is the fact that some people can't afford to eat let alone buy shoes factor.
Then on a personal level does she not feel selfish, spending all that money on something that is only enjoyable for her, vain and insecure because she thinks that shoes and bags will make her prettier, and because she thinks that expensive things will make people think better of her.
It certainly isn't sane normal behaviour. Medically (although as you probably gathered I am not a professional) this behaviour is similar to bulimia and anorexia. It is also a trait that many people suffering from these diseases choose to follow. Having flashy, expensive, pretty, eye catching garments deters peoples attention away from you, but on to the shoes or bag etc. Buying these items can become an addiction in itself. We've all heard of shopaholics, but it really is a serious addiction, if not kept within boundaries.
OK so this is the hard end of things, maybe your girlfriend is just a bit frivolous, or has loads of money. I'm personally a handbag lover myself. The reason I have so many is that they are practical, come in different colours and shapes that suit certain outfits, and that they are generally pretty.

I don't have any handbags and I only have 3 pairs of boots and a couple of pairs of trainers. Oh and a pair of walking boots. I can't walk in heels so maybe thats why I don't have an obsession with shoes and handbags just get in the way - if you have pockets you don't need a handbag!

Well I had 21 pairs of shoes and 4 hand bags. These are very personal to a girl and express who she is in a big way. Like almost all of my shoes are mary janes and I'm still looking for the perfect pair. Like I would not be seen dead in sports shoes or boots, they're just not me. Yes its a girl thing, a boy would not understand.

I am a woman. I do not have a fascination with shoes. I have 4 pairs and one of those I wore on my wedding day. Bags I have about 7.

I don't know I often wonder that myself. I have 2 Pr's of sandals 2 Pr's of tenny shoes and a pair of snowboarding boots and a pr of winter boots. Just the necessities. I don't own a hand bag unless you count the hemp bag I got at hemp fest a few yrs ago lol...but I'm a hippie so I'm not into all that materiel girl stuff :o)

they make you feel fab. every girl knows that when you put on a pair of heels you feel so much sexier ! and if youve got the bag to match thats even better !
im the same i have so many shoes and bags and im moving house and cant find space for them all.
if your wearing a pink dress for example you wouldnt want a blue bag to it just wouldnt go, you should appreciate her good taste in bags and shoes

Yeah totally i love shoes and bags all different kinds, especially suede ones they are girly and an accessories that goes with what we wear to make an outfit looked finish, and well put together.
