On the Internet, computers generally play one of two roles: that of server or that of client. A client requests some service of the server, which the server usually supplies. Note that these roles aren't fixed: a computer that acts as a client one moment, can act as a server the next.
When you move or copy a file from a client to a server, it is referred to as uploading. When you move or copy a file from a server to a client, it's called downloading.
A lot of the time, uploading and downloading is free (or rather: you pay through it through your ISP --the company that gets you on the Internet-- so it's included in the costs of your subscription), but sometimes you have to pay additional fees for it. It's easy to determine whether it's 'free' or not: just try it out. If they don't ask for money, it's 'free'. (I'm putting the word 'free' between quotes here because, as I wrote, you generally DO pay for it, only you don't notice it because it's included in the fee you pay your ISP.)
As far as I know, MySpace is a free service, so no worries there.

Hi there. What are downloads? Downloads is like retrieving a file or document from another person's computer. Some downloads require to have an account with them before downloading, some are for trial programs (free to get, but must pay if u like it), and some you have to pay before you can download (eg, updates to programs like antivirus and such). Some are totally free (eg pics, music samples etc). Hope this answers your questions!

Download - to 'load' or 'copy' file[s] to your computer from another. It is usually 'free', but may or may not be. Be careful.
In most cases, the 'downloaded' file will show up on your desktop and requires you to 'double-click' it or something.
